Motivation

Diabetes in older adults often leads to severe foot complications, including pain, mobility loss and, in the worst cases, amputations. Despite these risks, there is a lack of practical, everyday solutions for early detection and prevention. We aim to close this gap. By combining advanced sensor technology with AI, we empower older adults to maintain mobility, prevent health deterioration and live independently for longer. Our approach offers an innovative, technology-driven solution for improving health outcomes and quality of life in aging populations.
Objectives
and approach
Together with our partners, we are developing intelligent, sensor-equipped insoles that attempt to continuously monitor foot health, gait patterns, pressure distribution and glucose levels, without disrupting daily routines. We take the lead in designing novel algorithms to process this data in real-time. Our AI interprets movement patterns, identifies early signs of gait impairments or pressure-related foot risks and detects blood sugar fluctuations. Users receive personalized, actionable feedback to reduce foot strain and improve mobility. Additionally, our system provides healthcare professionals with valuable diagnostic insights and supports individualized therapy decisions.

Innovations and perspectives

Through precise gait monitoring, continuous glucose tracking and AI-based health assessments, we attempt early detection of diabetes-related complications before irreversible damage occurs. The seamless feedback loop between users, healthcare providers and intelligent systems fosters proactive health management, helping to reduce the risk of severe foot conditions and associated complications like amputations. By working closely with stakeholders and target groups, we ensure to deliver measurable benefits for health, independence and quality of life in aging societies.
