Real-time motion
and pain detection

Motivation

Chronic back pain significantly affects the daily lives of many individuals and requires continuous physiotherapeutic care. Therefore, especially for patients at high risk of developing chronic conditions, it is crucial to improve the quality and effectiveness of home-based rehabilitation exercises to prevent long-term health damage.

Objectives
and approach

Our team is developing an adaptive system to support patients in performing back pain rehabilitation exercises at home. It uses machine-based object recognition (computer vision) to precisely capture physiotherapeutic movements and employs AI to analyze the execution of these exercises. At the same time, it detects facial expressions and vocal signals to draw conclusions about pain intensity and provides immediate feedback. This real-time feedback enables patients to perform their exercises independently. Furthermore, the objective documentation of therapy progress allows for continuous improvement and adjustment of treatment.
